Saint Amatus, also known as St. Aimé, was a Benedictine monk. He famously championed the common man against exploitation by the Merovingian king, Thierry III. In Belgium, Oostvleteren is the only parish to claim St. Amatus as its patron saint. Struise began brewing in Vleteren early 2006, and we anchored ourselves by developing our own microbrewery in Oostvleteren from 2009 onward. With this adventure well underway, creating the Saint Amatus 12 felt like the natural next step. The terrific artwork was provided by our "one-and-only" artist, Carlo Grootaert. Saint Amatus has been aged in Woodford Reserve barrels from Labrot & Graham in Kentucky, USA.
